Into the sea

Taking my photo/videography underwater has always been one of those dreams. However, the associated costs have usually kept that as a dream (I'm not as brave as some who treats their D80 as waterproof). Yet, every time I go swimming with prastochi, my heart yearns to capture his happiness and thrill while playing in water. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered that the underwater housings for my Sony Camcorder were on sale for sub $100 at my nearby Sony Store. While it's no James Cameron submarine, as it won't survive a dive deeper than 5m (17ft), this housing should be more than sufficient to cover most of my auquatic adventures. The description even claimed the housing protects from both water and SAND; it will be immediately usuable for Cancun next month!

I'm itching with anticipation, with a touch of nervousness. This underwater housing better not fail on me... otherwise, it'd be a pretty expensive mistake.

Little Lucas has been slowly, but surely racking up his geocaching finds. As of today, he's got 43 under his belt, including some challenging ones. He was amused today when he got an email from a local cacher (with 1275 finds!) asking for help on a cache Lucas had previously found. I wonder if that cacher knows that he's asking for help from a baby. :P

Full of C...

Thought I'd share some funny moments with Lucas to anyone who still visits / subscribes to this blog...

Last week, baby Lucas won't stop crying in the middle of the night, despite his Mommy's best efforts to calm him. In the end, his Daddy got up to try calming the munchkin himself. At that very moment, Lucas gave several large notices that a #2 was erupting!! As always, baby Lucas is very calm during such eruptions. The next day, reflecting on baby Lucas's antics overnight... Mommy said.. Lucas was fussy because he was Full of Crap!!!

Delirium

Delirium (di-'lir-E-&m)- A mental disturbance characterized by confusion, disordered speech, and hallucinations.

Another Cirque du Soleil show came into town earlier this week. Since these shows come into Toronto once in a blue moon, Delirium was NOT to be missed. Unlike Corteo, Delirium had much less gymnastics and acrobats, but much more music, atmosphere and mystic. Delirium sponsored a long rectangular stage in the middle of the ACC rink. A large translucent curtain was drawn across on both (long) sides the stage to connect two projection screens at the ends of the stage. Apparently the size of the projection screens (and curtains) was four times an IMAX screen! This simple setup allowed for some awesome projects as the two translucent curtains gave the projections a 3D effect. Everything culmulated to the "Tidal Wave" scene, where water filling a big fish tank was projected. You really felt like you were a small fish in a really big tank. :-D Another cool part was the black and white flashbacks of faces of many random people. Watching the live action on the stage and seeing the flashbacks imposed on top of them, makes you feel like you are traveling in a portal through time.

As a cirque du soleil show, Delirium did have its fair share of acrobatics. The most impressive was the solo hoops manipulation master Irina Akimova of the Russian Federation. She was spinning at least 8 hoops! I don't know why I'm always most amazed at the hoola hoops acts (same thing in Corteo). Must be because I have trouble spinning one hoop. sigh.

The music in the main show was very fitting, and was an important contributor of the atmosphere. I would have gotten the CD, if I didnt' already spend $20!!! on the program. I wasn't very impressed with Nitza's 20 minute opening though. She had a great voice and all, but I'm not a big concert fan. If there was one thing that made her opening worth watching, it's that halfway through her act, she proclaimed: "It's good to be back home!". The Canadian pride trick always works! I have to admit, it was very weird that the one and only intermission during the two hour show happens after Nitza's opening 20 minutes. I was thinking I was wasn't going to get my money's worth!

The most impressive aspect overall was the allure of the show. It really captivates your imagination, and makes you feel like you are part of the "dream" world. I've never been to a show that was this captivating. It wasn't just a performance on the stage. The guy behind me put it the best when he whispered loudly during a scene: "This is a real fantasy show". I don't know what he was thinking..heh. :-)
