Cool on Global Warming

This picture was plastered on the front page of Toronto Star today relating to an article on climate-change action/global warming. Really a picture that's worth more than a thousand words.

PICTURE TAKEN BY SPENCER WYNN FOR THE TORONTO STAR
A lone polar bear drifts at the entrance to the Arctic's Northwest Passage. Warming may open it year-round.

On a totally separate note, I saw the following quote today:

Stuffed deer heads on walls are bad enough, but it's worse when they are wearing dark glasses and have streamers in their antlers because then you know they were enjoying themselves at a party when they were shot. - Ellen DeGeneres
Now you know what those deers at Gringos were doing before they met their fate.

yes, those "Bulls" had a very good time ;)

It makes me very sad to see that lone polar bear. Humans are really doing terrible things to the environment. Meanwhile, people in U.S. is still debating whether global warming is a myth. I want to personally apologize for Bush being such an idiot.

Yeah, that picture effected me more than I expected. There is absolutely no need to apologize for your President. The state of affairs in Canada is just as bad, if not worse than U.S.

Our ratification of the Kyoto protocol (which over 70% of population supports), requires us to drop 6% below 1990 emissions level. We are at like 30% over 1990 levels, and it's going up every year. :(

Our former government was pro-environment, but didn't set forth any useful policies. The current government is even more useless, because their main fanbase is the oil producing companies in Alberta. Bush's desire to increase import of oil from Alberta isn't helping the cause. :(

Fortunately, the main opposition party just elected the former Environment Minister as their leader. So environment is becoming a hot-potato issue for both parties and the media. Have to see if anything good will fall out of this.

The U.S. at least is trying to develop renewable energy sources, albeit for non-environmental and other political reasons.
